"Mueller's" Day ON

Dr. Mueller, a professor at Appalachian State University, came to speak to my Social Media Strategies class to discuss SEO and SEM. That sounds pretty confusing, right? Wrong.

SEO refers to Search Engine Optimization while SEM refers to Search Engine Marketing. These terms come together to create a successful online presence and, when utilized correctly, have a significant affect on a blog's virutal traffic. When implemented correctly, SEO and SEM can maximize the number of views a user's content generates. SEM deals specifically with paid clicks (often referred to pay per click (PPC)) while SEO deals with search results that are organic.

Dr. Mueller often referred back to his own successes with his blog and virutal content. The aspect of his lecture I found most interesting was the idea of "putting yourself in front of whomever, whenever." For instance, whenever he listened to a podcast, he said he tweets the speaker about what he likes. Typically, the speaker will retweet him, exposing Mueller's content to hundreds of thousands (sometimes even millions) of new viewers.

This lecture served as a great introduction to SEO and SEM. It also included great tips on how to maximize views and clicks to our content!

G'day.
