Haggard died Wednesday of health complications due to pneumonia. He passed away on his birthday. He was 79.

Haggard is often referred to as a pioneer in country music. With over 30 number one singles in a career spanning over 60 years, Haggard's stylistic influence is evident in many modern-day artists' songs. HIs life was not an easy one. In fact, his early years were often troubled - his father's death, running away from home, and spending time in prison. However, he was a true artist in that his troubled past was reflected in his music.
